Stormwater wastewater discharge consents

Consents For Stormwater & Wastewater Discharges

Resource Consent Applications

Unless a company is operating to Permitted Activity criteria, or has a Consent, no process discharges are allowed onto land or into air or water.  IWS can assist companies to develop effective means of preventing contamination of these receiving environments – the solutions are often simple.

IWS can assist companies with obtaining the appropriate consents for their business including:

  • Industrial Trade or Activity consents
  • Stormwater diversion consents
  • Discharge of contaminants
  • Trade waste discharge consents

Industrial Trade or Activity Consents

Under legislation like the Auckland Regional Council’s Air, Land and Water Plan, higher risk industries are required to obtain resource consents to discharge contaminants (including contaminated stormwater) from their sites. This drive for environmental improvement is extending around NZ.

IWS specialises in helping companies obtain these important and comprehensive consents for their sites. This consent process is often long as companies correct environmental risks during the consent development process.

These consents ensure a company covers the full range of environmental issues around its site(s).

  • Pollution source control
  • Understanding and mapping the drainage networks (IWS operates Auto CAD)
  • Chemical, oil and fuel control (Environmentally Hazardous Substances)
  • Stormwater treatment design (and installation)
  • Environmental Management Plans and Spill Response Plans
  • Monitoring
  • Auditing

Trade Waste Discharge Consents

Most connections from an industrial or commercial property require a trade waste discharge consent with the local Council or 'wastewater authority' (such as Watercare Services in Auckland).

IWS is experienced in obtaining the information required for these consents, and in applying for them. One key area of experience is the management of stormwater infiltration where outside work processes have to take place. This might include stormwater diversion or detention systems with delayed release.

Where the site cannot comply with consent conditions, IWS will work with the client to find a practical solution.
