Monitoring & Troubleshooting
Most resource consents and trade waste discharge consents require regular monitoring to be undertaken to ensure compliance with the consent. Companies can use this information for loss monitoring also. Monitoring is often used to find the problems in a treatment system.
IWS carries out stormwater and wastewater monitoring for companies in a range of industries, as well as for councils.
IWS has a range of sampling, logging and analysis equipment (see photo examples), which can be used to monitor various parameters. Examples are pH, temperature, conductivity and flow logging and composite sample collection. A wide range of chemical and biological analyses can be arranged for the client, with results being available on an urgent basis if required.
IWS can interpret the resulting data and report on compliance with the specified standard.

Environmental Management Plan (EMP) & Training
Developing a site EMP is a good way of checking that all the risks have been addressed and of providing a means to protect your site and the local environment on an ongoing basis. The Spill Response Plan (SRP) is a significant part of the EMP.
IWS can assist with or fully develop your EMP and SRP, and assist with staff training.
Perhaps it would be more useful to develop the environmental controls across your industry group. IWS is involved in the development of Codes of Practice for industrial sector operators. Its most significant contribution in this area is the writing of the Liquid and Hazardous Waste Code of Practice in 2003.
Environmental Auditing
IWS undertakes environmental audits, including:
- Trade waste compliance audits
- Pollution audits
- Environmental compliance audits
- Risk assessment audits
- Environmental management system audits
IWS finds it completes most of its auditing work in the area of “coal face” audits – the identification of actual and potential pollution risks. The resultant 'Aspects and Impacts" summary is used to direct the improvements required around a site, and eventually become part of the Environmental Management Plan.
Along with a significant range of industrial site experience, the team auditing skills include:
- QAS environmental auditing training &
- HSNO Test Certifier training
